TEGLA LOROUPE PEACE FOUNDATION

BRINGING PEACE THROUGH SPORTS TO CONFLICT REGIONS
The Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation was formed to use the power of sport to bring peace to conflict-ridden areas of East Africa, to support children who are victims of conflict, and to enable economic development.

Almost two hundred thousand people have been displaced by conflict in this region in the past seven years, seventy per cent of them women and children under fourteen.  Thousands of women are widowed, thousands of children are orphaned.   Two million people are immediately affected.

The Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation has developed four coordinated programmes to implement its long-term strategy to reduce conflict.

First, Peace Races. Bring together thousands of warriors from all tribes and clans to compete on common ground.

Second, Peace Outreach. Use these gatherings to strengthen indigenous peace and leadership structures: build District Peace Committees working with Councils of Elders. Create an early warning system for conflict, utilizing new technologies of communication to link every family in the region.

Third, Peace Academy. Build an educational structure for the victims of conflict, beginning with the children and women, based on honoring the fundamental cultural strengths of pastoral life.

Fourth, Peace Development. Develop the fundamental infrastructures of peace: health, economic development, and security.

Three fundamental principles drive this strategy: local ownership and direction of the entire conflict resolution process; complete gender equality in all programs and activities; equal engagement with all those willing to work for peace.

BYkids Vision & Mission Statement. BYkids is a non-profit organization pairing master American filmmakers with youth (ages 8-21) from around the world to mentor the child in creating a short documentary about his or her life. BYkids selects these children's stories for their international relevance. All BYkids documentaries illuminate critical global issues from a perspective rarely told in mainstream media. BYkids seeks to change the way Americans see the world — and the way the world sees us — by using the power of film as a tool for global understanding and a catalyst for action. Your donation will buy the camera to be used by the child. Without the camera, no art can be made. Without art, no change can come. With it, magic…
