Jacqueline Brodie (Film) Lifetime Achievement Award
Jacqueline Brodie
Born in France and educated in Paris, in her early twenties Jacqueline Brodie adopted Montreal as her home city and became a Canadian citizen. Having begun her career as a freelance writer for CBC/Radio-Canada, Jacqueline later jumped into the worlds of publicity and journalism before being hired as a communication representative by the National Film Board of Canada. She then was appointed Deputy Director of the Canadian Government Film Festival Bureau in Ottawa and spent more than a decade promoting Canadian films and their creators around the world prior to resuming freelance work.
As a Press Attache, Publicist and Film Festival Consultant, Jacqueline has worked for the Festival of Festivals (now TIFF), the Vancouver Film Festival, the Banff World Television Festival, and the Venice Film Festival. For 15 years, she was the Publicity representative for Canada with the French Trade paper, Le Film Francais. She also worked for Telefilm Canada as Publicist and Press Attache at home and abroad, in particular promoting Canadian filmmakers at the Cannes Film Festival. She continues to work at Cannes as a TIFF Consultant and accredited journalist covering the event for various papers including the French language weekly L'EXPRESS DE TORONTO.
Among the films and filmmakers Jacqueline has helped promote are: Lies My Father Told Me (Jan Kadar); Dancing In The Dark (Leon Marr - Cannes); I Have Heard The Mermaid Singing (Patricia Rozema - Cannes); Sam and Me (Deepa Mehta - Cannes); Speaking Parts (Atom Egoyan - Cannes); The Adjuster (Atom Egoyan - Valladolid Film Festival). After winning Best Canadian Feature Film at TIFF 2011, Philippe Falardeau named Jacqueline for 'having been instrumental in his success' ever since his film La Moitie Gauche du Frigo was awarded the Best First Canadian Feature Film award at TIFF 2001. Jacqueline has also worked very closely with directors Jean Pierre Lefebvre and Andre Forcier, promoting their films at Cannes and elsewhere.
Other Canadian Film Industry notables Jacqueline has worked with include: Wayne Clarkson and Helga Stephenson, whom she helped promote and build Canada's Festival of Festivals into TIFF, one of the major film festivals in the Western world; Francois Macerola, from his association with Malofilms Distribution to his present position as Head of SODEC; Michele Maheux, from Director of Communications for Festival of Festivals to Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer for TIFF; and Noah Cowan, from co-director for TIFF to Artistic Director TIFF Bell Lightbox.
In addition to her publicity, journalism, and consultant roles, Jacqueline has been a member of numerous film festival juries including Yorkton (Canada), Chicago (U.S.A), Taormina (Italy) and Valladolid (Spain). Jacqueline's association with TIFF as Special Communications Consultant began in 1984 and today, 27 years later, is still going strong.
