Born in Istanbul Yasemin Alkaya Director and Producer, studied ballet at the Ankara State Conservatory, and graduated from the Theatre Department at the Istanbul University State Conservatory. In 1992 she received Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Kurt Kanunu (Law of the Wolf) at the Ankara Film Festival. In 1993 she established Oyuncular (Players) Theatre Group, and staged Anton Chekhov’s Hayat cok Güzel (Life is Very Beauti¬ful) directed by Russian director Kama Ginkas. The name of the theater was later changed to Tiyatrofil.
Between 1994 - 1996 Yasemin Alkaya directed and produced Yaz
(Write me on the Sand) by lnez von Dulleman and Günlük Müstehcen Sirlar (Daily Obscene Secrets) by Antonio de Ia Parla.
As an actress Yasemin Alkaya has won a number of wards including Best Female Actress award in Mum Kokulu Kadinlar (Candle Scented Women) shown at the Antalya and Adana Film Festivals in 1996. She was also awarded the Best Female Actress award in Olmeye Yatmak (Laying Down To Dying) at the Swiss National Young Cinematographers Festival (1998) she played the lead role in Yasmina Reza’s play Yasamin Uc Yüzü (Three Faces of Life) in 2002.
Yasemin Alkaya has been writing scripts since 1996, and has to date written six screenplays. The 5th Floor was her directorial debut, which she wrote, played the leading role, and also produced the film.
