THE WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL FILM & TELEVISION SHOWCASE SELECTS AWARD WINNERS AT 2009 GALA AWARDS CEREMONY
Visionary Women & Women Filmmakers Recognized at TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards Closing Night Event on December 4 at the Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood
Los Angeles – Visionary Women and Women Filmmakers from around the globe were recognized during The Women’s International Film & Television Showcase - TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards at the Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood on December 4.
The Women’s International Film & Television Showcase – TheWIFTS Foundation honored the following women during the evening: Tegla Loroupe (Dove Award), Betty Makoni (Humanitarian Award), Elizabeth Grant (Lifetime Achievement Award), Nancy Kwan (Lifetime Tribute Award), Christina Jennings (TV Pioneer Award), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Humanitarian Award), Irshad Manji (Visionary Award), Georgia Jeffries (Screenwriter Award), Nancy Carter (Entrepreneur Award), Ruth Carter (Costume Design Award), Magda Rod (Gaea Award), Judy Irola (Cinematographer Award), and Mary McGuckian (Career Achievement Award).
The Women's International Film & Television Showcase, TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards – in its second year screened 14 films and 16 shorts from 11 countries at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles. • Adrienne Fancey Best Film Award was awarded to Native Dancer
• Best Director was awarded to Guka Omarova for Native Dancer
• Best Actor was awarded to Neisipkul Omarbekova for her portrayal of Aidai in Native Dancer
• Best Documentary was awarded to Tapestries of Hope
• Best Documentary Director was awarded to Michealene Cristini Risley for Tapestries of Hope
• Best Short Film was awarded to Emma Rozanski for The Storymaker
• The Jury Award was awarded to We Are Half of Iran’s Population
• The Diversity Award was awarded to Madri
• Elizabeth Grant Entrepreneur Award was awarded to Nancy Carter
• The Special Jury Mention for Achievement was awarded to The Stoning of
Soraya M.
• Actress Jacqueline Bisset presented Shohreh Aghdashloo the Humanitarian
Award
• Actor Shawn Ashmore presented Christina Jennings the Television Pioneer
Award

• Actress Jennifer Tilly was there in support of the honorees at TheWIFTS
L. A. Times Columnist Patt Morrison chaired the jury for TheWIFTS. Other jury members included: Producer Brian Jamieson; Producer/Director Philippe Mora; Actress/Screenwriter/Director/Producer Kamala Lopez; and Actress Julie Carmen.
